The technology industry is booming more than ever. Even with many hard workers losing their jobs left and right, the IT field is doing just find thanks to the Internet.

If you have experience in a tech field – or want to scoot over to this industry – and are looking for work, you’re going to need a pretty good resume to compete with all the other pros out there. So before you get started on yours, let’s look at a few tips to consider to make yours fabulous.

Keep Your Information Relevant

Since the tech industry is so specific to the job at hand, you don’t benefit as much from adding details that don’t apply directly to the job of interest. For instance, if you’re applying for a position as a software developer, you may not want to men-tion your time as a secretary unless you were asked to develop programs for the company during your down time.

Detail All of Your Experience

Again, because the tech world is very specific, disclosing the programs or other technologies you’re familiar with is vital. For instance, if you have experience with a PPP Aggregator then you darn well better mention it. Or if you know about Access Multiplexors, it’s important that you at least express your level of proficiency in this area. The more specific you are, the better your chances will be of landing an inter-view. But it’s up to you to tell the employer – not make him assume – everything about you in your resume.

Avoid Standard Resume Templates

Individuals in non-tech industries can typically get away with using a standard re-sume template because computers aren’t their “thing.” But as a person involved in technology, your resume may be looked down upon if it looks like the hundreds of others the employer has seen before. As an expert in the use of different computer technologies, you should be able to create a rather impressive resume that shows creativity, yet still looks professional. If you create one used for novice computer users, you might be contradicting your very goal of showing the employer how much you know.

Make Use of Your Logos

When you pick up a CCNP, CCNA, or other certification, you receive a logo to use on your resume. By placing the ones you’ve received on there, you alert employers of your knowledge immediately, which will likely invite them to read on.

Mention Organizations You Belong To

Another bonus of working in the tech industry is being able to learn and grow out-side of the jobs you’ve previously held. If you belong to tech organizations, it’s im-portant that you mention them in your resume. For instance, if you are a member of MENSA and don’t mention it, you may not think it’s a big deal. However, if you are up against a person who has similar qualifications but does mention their mem-bership, you’ll be giving them a leg up unnecessarily.

The last thing you want is some technicality to cheat you out of your tech job. So remember what makes tech resumes fabulous to increase your chances of being called in for an interview.
