You just started blogging and your blog is looking really plain, right? You want and need to stand out from the crowd so your voice can be heard. One of the easiest and most affordable ways to do that is simply to change your blog’s header image.

When you first install WordPress you’re going to have that same old boring standard Kubrick theme with a blue header that everyone and their brother gets. It’s not very exciting, it’s kind of plain, and it’s definitely not much fun at all. The good news is that you can easily change that and make your blog a little happier and a little more you with just a few simple clicks of your mouse.

You have a few options here. You can download a free blog theme from one of the many theme directories online, or even from WordPress.org and install that to your site. Of course, many others still use those themes, but it’s better than the plain blue and white sheet that you started with.

Another option is just to change the header on that standard WordPress theme and replace it with a new image. You can find free blog headers online much the same way you would find themes or if you have some graphics knowledge you can create a quick new header yourself.

There are many benefits to making this small change to your site when you start blogging.

- You’re going to make your site more memorable to the reader when you have a graphic header that represents your topic well, even if that topic is just your every day life.

- You’re going to stand out from your competition and other blogs on the same topic.

- You’re going to encourage your visitors to stay and read more because they are going to be intrigued and interested by what they see before they read.

- You’re going to instantly filter out people that are looking for something else, which is just as important as getting the right people to stick around.

… and the list could go on and on about the benefits of customizing your blog appearance with a header or theme.
