The baby is here... Help I need to Save money.

By: Chaele McMillan

The cost of raising a baby is expensive. Here are a few tips to help you save money the first year.

1) Check to see if you qualify for Wic or Government Assistance.

2) Shop Yard Sales and Second Hand Consignment Shops. Your baby will grow so quick so don’t buy hundred pieces of newborn clothing and don’t be afraid to buy used clothing.

3) Make your own baby wipes.

4) Visit Gerber, Pampers and Formula websites to get free coupons. Ask family members to save their coupons that are in the Sunday Paper.

5) Make your own baby food. Freeze them into an ice cube tray. Once they are frozen pop them out and store in a freezer bag.

6) Breast feed and freeze your milk for later feedings.

7) Use cloth diapers when you are at home.

8) Ask a friend or take your own baby pictures. You can have them developed real cheap!

9) Don’t buy tons of toys.

10) Take turns babysitting. Ask a friend or a neighbor if you can babysit their kid while they run errands and they do the same for you.

11) Car Seats. Ask your insurance company if they offer car seats at a discount price. Farm Bureau does for all their members.

12) Learn to sew. Make your child’s own clothing and blankets, curtains and stuffed animals for the nursery.
