Let's Go Fly a Kite Scrapbooking Layout

Flying a kite is a great outdoor activity that the entire family
can enjoy. Better yet, it is a great opportunity to take some
photos for your family scrapbook...there's nothing cuter than
tiny, beaming faces looking up into the sky at a kite they're
trying so hard to hold on to. We ended up tying the string to
our boys' wrists so they wouldn't let go. I have a great picture
of me tying the string to my son's wrist while he has a look on
his face that says "Mommy, no! I can do it myself!"

Flying kites isn't just for springtime. If you live in an area
like we do you can find a good wind for kite flying almost any
time of year! We took our photos in June, when the sky was a
brilliant blue. The colors really came through in the pictures.

I chose an easy scrapbook layout for my kite flying pictures. My
goal was to accentuate the blue sky and the colors of the kite,
so I chose white and blue for my background colors.

Materials needed:

Paper cutter
Glue stick
6 Kite photos
12x12 piece of textured white cardstock
12x12 piece of scrapbook paper with cloud pattern

I first cut a strip of the cloud paper to glue in the center of
the white background page. The photos will be placed above and
below this strip. My strip was about 4 inches tall and the same
width of the background page. I glued this strip in place and
then centered my caption "Let's Go Fly a Kite" in the center of
the page. I created my caption in Creating Keepsakes "Creative
Lettering" software program. This is a great computer program to
use for captions and all kinds of lettering. You could also use
Microsoft Word's WordArt to create a similar caption. I printed
this on white computer paper. You could also print it on white
card stock. You can make it any size you like.

Next I cut down my photos. I lined up three photos above the
center cloud strip, and three photos below the center strip. The
pictures don't have to all be the same size. I just cut them
down to get rid of unnecessary space in the photos and so that
they fit nicely on the scrapbook page. I glued them in place,
and that's it! It's really very simple. The blue sky and green
grass are a sharp contrast to the white background and really
stand out. You could mat the photos with a different color if
you wish, but I didn't find it necessary.
