Girls Night

By: Dionna Sanchez

I am blessed to have a husband who doesn’t travel too often or be away from home. So, when there comes a time that he is going to be away overnight, I created a tradition to make it a special time for my two daughters and me. We have a “Girls Night.”

Our “Girls Night” is a special night just for us. I am trying to create the atmosphere where we can be free in celebrating our femininity while having a little fun as well!

Our evening consists of a few core things that we always do.

1) We designate the beginning of our “Girls Night” time by playing a special theme song. For my daughters and I, we chose “The Real Me” by Jaci Velasquez. My girls know that when that song starts – our evening has begun! We blare it loudly and sing along while dancing around the living room.

2) We get in our pajamas to relax and enjoy the evening together.

3) We always have a pizza and sometimes bake cookies together. Then we watch a good “chick flick.”

4) I give them a small special “prize” – just a little token of my affections for them.

5) To complete our evening, I allow my daughters to sleep in my room with me. Sometimes they both sack out in sleeping bags and sometimes one of them will sleep in bed with me while the other one sleeps on the floor beside us.

For us, our evening is a fun celebration and a time for us to be silly, emotional or what – not. We always look forward to it since it doesn’t come around all of the time.

I hope that this will be a fun tradition that my daughters remember when they are grown up. And maybe they will even come home sometime when all of our husbands are away and we will have the joy of revisiting our special “Girls Night” tradition.
