Fashion: Overwhelmed at the closet?? A working girl's guide to dressing.

By: bellenoelle  [Comments (1)]

Let's face it, acquiring and maintaining a working woman's wardrobe can be a real pain and expense. If you are like me at all, you might even stall out or give up at times! But don't give up before you read these tips, and these come from personal experience, not the pages of Anorexia Magazine, home of the starved and famous.

Tip #1: Start with neutrals and basics. Build your core.
Black, brown, beige, winter white, gray. Pants, fitted skirts, blazers, sweaters, a good black pump maybe a brown loafer. Black socks, nude hose, good bra- get a fitting by a professional, unlumpy underwear, a black or tan coat, you get the picture.

Tip #2: Save your trendy pieces for cheaper blouses, sale shoes, or accessories. Trendy colors, prints, or accessories are best used with restraint in the workplace anyhow. It shows you have flair but know where to stop. No sequins at work!

Tip #3: We all know, but I'll say it again: POST SEASON SHOPPING. Coats, conservative shoes (remember, pumps and loafers in the aforementioned neutrals?), dresses, even suits. I recently saw 2 gorgeous famous maker suits at a large discount store for $50.00 each. Normally, they go for $250.00 each. Might be worth it even if you have to tailor it. But only if it's close to your size.

Tip #4: Get one of those "at home dry cleaning kits" and a shoe shine kit.

Tip #5: Buy what fits, even if you have to cut the tag off because the number irritates you. Yes, that's right I said it. Even if you plan to diet, you have to wear clothes NOW. So look good NOW and look good later when you get to buy more new clothes! (E-bay can help you unload higher-end clothes that no longer fit) I know, I am not make of money either.

I don't know about you, but when I am dressed well at work, I think more clearly and express my thoughts more fully. On my own time, I break out the funky jewelry or sequins. And I DO! Trust me!

Here is to more success in 2006! We work hard, we deserve it! Good luck!
